A Long Story: Another Day in Katie's Trainwreck...
I have been wanting to try out yoga for some time now. Who could resist some deep breathing and gentle stretching to decrease anxiety and renew the soul? Luckily, Bf bought me a Groupon for a super popular yoga studio here in Seattle…10 classes for $30 bucks! Sweet deal!
So, I mustered up some courage (I have a fear of going to new places alone) and went to the Intro/Basics class a couple...

End of Strawberry Week
As we close strawberry week with a guest post by my boyfriend, I hope you have enjoyed seeing all the ways 8+ pounds of strawberries can be used.
And with that, I must tell you that I am going raspberry picking this weekend!
Guest Post: Bf's Fruit Leather by Bf!
Summer is here, say hello to berry season in the Pacific Northwest. For the first time in months my refrigerator is graced with the presence of fresh fruit. While fresh strawberries are to die for, one can only eat so many before they go bad and for this reason I have decided to preserve the rest of this years harvest. Most people think of preservation in terms of canning or freezing, but...
Wednesday: Strawberry Bread
I love zucchini bread. So, of course, I know I will love strawberry bread. On Wednesday, I found this recipe and got to work. Here are my ingredients. I used half sour cream and half yogurt, since those were options and I wanted to get rid of the sour cream so there would be a stop to my eating it with tortilla chips.
And, I followed the directions and ended up with this:
And it was...
1940's Silhouettes →
Great post at Adore Vintage about 1940’s style.
I never really realized that 1940’s clothing prominately featured shoulder pads—I thought it was just a sad aspect of the 1980’s!! But! Fashion is cyclical as we all know well. So there’s that.
ladyofleisuredc asked: Thanks! I got it on Friday! Just in time. It is so beautiful, I want to cry.
Tuesday, Part II: Frozen Strawberries
Since I bought 8 pounds of strawberries, I realized it might be prudent to freeze some of these little guys or else risk serious gastrointestinal distress from eating them all before they went bad. Anyways, last year, I picked an equally crazy amount of raspberries and, also, tried to freeze those, which failed. I learned that the key to freezing fresh berries is to freeze them flat so they are...
Tuesday, Part 1: Strawberry Shortcake
On Tuesday, I decided to go with a classic: Strawberry Shortcake. So, I whipped out my trusty sidekick, Joy, and went to work. Turns out, Irma recommends three different shortcake options. One was a scone recipe and the other two were biscuit recipes. I found this odd because none of them were anything like what you would think of as being “shortcake”. Anyways, I chalked it up to an 50...
Monday: Strawberry Jam
Many people think that jam making is hard. It’s not really hard, per se, just kinda confusing the first few times you do it. It takes less than one hour too! I used my 1960’s Joy of Cooking for the recipe. Here is what you need:
Strawberries, sugar, jam jars (from Safeway), tongs, a big stockpot and a smaller wider pot.
I won’t bore you with the actual recipe, but if you are...
Strawberry Week
As you may have heard about on my Twitter, I went strawberry picking the weekend before this last weekend! And…I brought home 8 POUNDS of strawberries. And…those were just mine! In case you are wondering what 8 pounds of strawberries looks like, here is a photo:
It actually doesn’t look like that many in the photo, but trust me, it is!
Anyways, to prevent all these delicious...
Small Town Thrift Stores
One of my favorite parts of visiting my parent’s house (besides spending time with my family, of course) is the small little thrift a couple blocks away. Because we are from such a small town and it is considered so uncool to shop there by my peers, the thrift store is chock full of great things to be found! It is always on my to-do list.
Along with two shirts, here is what I found:

Runaway Train
Last week, bf and I went home to see our families in California for a week of eating and relaxation (Our parents only live 2 hours away from each other). Partly due to my fear of planes and partly due to some nostalgic romantic notions we had, we decided to take the train 24 hours down to San Jose.
Of course, I wore a 1950’s dress with a crinoline. It felt so much more poufy than it...
