Happy New Year!
On a more personal note: 2010, for me, has had it’s ups and downs. A lot of downs. But, also some ups. I started Mitu Vintage in March and while it is still small, it amazes me how much I love it. I dealt with frustration, fear, and anxiety over “what I am going to do with my life”. A typical “almost” quarter-life crisis. Between those two major things which took...

Home for the Holidays
Woke up at 3:30 AM this morning to catch a flight home to my parent’s for Christmas. We went straight from the airport to the thrift stores. At 10 am, in true thrifting fashion. Definitely runs in my blood. Most definitely.

Recipes by Irma: Rum Balls
(in which I attempt to recreate recipes from my vintage 1963 edition of “The Joy of Cooking”) Despite the fact that I am a total grinch woman this year, I decided I better do something festive. Food is always a great option for that kinda thing. When I was little my mom used to make rum balls, aka bourban balls, aka rum drops according the Irma. Haven’t had one in years. I took the...

saturday saturday
saturday, boyfriend (fyi—i actually call him “boyfriend” in real life) and i got into a really big fight. of course, we made up about 5 hours later and he took me to a really nice dinner, complete with dessert. he must have felt bad, or something. i was totally unprepared for any sort of getting dressed action. all my makeup was at his house  (i had stormed off to mine earlier...

Recipes by Irma: Brownies
(in which I attempt to recreate recipes from my vintage 1963 edition of “The Joy of Cooking”) “Why not try a classic?” I said to myself on a rainy Saturday. Brownies. Chocolate-y goodness I have only ever made from a box. Perfect every time. HA. Am I kidding myself with this??? Brownies are apparently actually called “Brownies Cockaigne”. Basically, you...

ladyofleisuredc asked: ps: I asked my question before I saw you comment not because of it lol
In all honesty, I deserve a broke back (mountain ha! ha! ha!- I'm such a 13yo) because I ALREADY have a love seat and three chairs, I just need to learn how to reupholster two of them.
So yeah, greed. If I wasn't greedy, I'd be fine!

Cycles of Fashion: Faux Fur
Would you rather… Have this super glamorous chocolate faux fur jacket by Juicy Couture at Nordstroms for $358? OR the “original” vintage one by Urban Wallflower for $85?  Her face makes me think she is scared you might choose the Juicy one!! (Although, I kinda like the horizontal details on the expensive one..) I think you get the idea.

the egg theory
interesting…never been a fan of boxed cake mixes…although, my attempts at baking from scratch haven’t really turned out either. didn’t know that the boxed cake mix came out in the 40’s! thought for sure it would’ve been the 50’s! dihard: When instant baking mixes were introduced in the 1940s, some did well (piecrusts, biscuits) and others did not (cake...

Give the Gift of Vintage
I decided this morning that I am not really a huge fan of Christmas. *shields head from stones* My deepest apologies, the music just really gets to me… Alas, I am obligated to give gifts and naturally, I gravitate towards vintage or the thrift stores, but not everyone appreciates that…so ETSY it is! Here are some vintage loving ideas I have skillfully thought of: 1) Plant Pots:...
